Spacelings - iPhone Review

Spacelings is the newest game from HotGen, who are guys that made the cracking To-Fu this time around you are in space and need to save your alien crew with nothing but your trusty tractor beam.

The game play is very simple to pick up and the early levels give you the skills you need in to conquer the galaxy and save your alien friends. Each level starts off with your mothership flying in and firing up the tractor beam. Your objective is to manipulate your beam around the map to pull your crew up, but be warned, it’s not only your crew that can be sucked back up to the mothership.
Now, this might all sound very simple, but there are some extra elements to make things interesting.

Not only do you have to find the shortest route possible, but you also have to find the safest route possible as there are bombs flying around and lasers incessantly shooting. On certain levels, there are pods you can collect which allow you extra deflectors for that level.

In order to help you beat the time or avoid anything dangerous, you are able to speed up objects moving through the beam or even slow them down.
As with most games nowadays you have various unlocks or objectives to go for, for Spacelings your main objective to progress to the next level is to save a single Spaceling per level, but if (like me) you want to get 4 stars (it’s no longer three) this would mean hitting all the objectives for that level, an example of this would be. Rescue All Spaclings, Destroy all Enemies, Collect all Pods and beat the clock, much easier said (or written) then done, I can assure you of that.

As you would expect from HotGen’s previous game, Spacelings looks stunning, the graphics are crisp and sharp with the attention to detail being top notch, and the intense blue of your tractor beam stands out just as much as your alien crew does and with over 100 levels to get through, this game will certainly keep you coming back for more.
