Having used the brilliant Xbox 360 keypad for a number of months now, to the point of it being second nature and feels like a part of the game-pad itself, I approached this review with some doubt, as the PS3 keypad has not received as much coverage as the 360.
But very early on my worries were allayed as the Keypad, from the very first look, to it's snug fit and very pleasing look, it just felt right.
One thing I will say did interest me was the claim it had a "trackpad" for what it called seamless internet browsing, this intrigued me as you would never see were the trackpad was, but the clever way it incorporates the trackapad is by a switch of a button and the central keys of the pad becoming the pad itself, and by running your fingers over the central keys, I have to say works surprisingly well for both browsing on the PS3 , and even taking control of the front end.
Onto the actual keypad itself for actual typing, it fits and works very well with no problems regarding any intrusiveness regarding normal game-play.It makes using the keypad so much better than any standard slow typing done by a normal PS3 dual shock controller.
One slight downside to some maybe the charging connection needed to keep this pad in power, however any PS3 user who is by now used to the powering of controllers, will see this as nothing more than a minor drawback.On the plus side, the review I did on the PS3 pyramid controller charger, has the bonus of the keypad being small enough to be used with that to charge the keypad.
All in all, I suspect many gamers would not even try the PS3 keypad, I have to say it makes a great edition to any dual shock controller for seamless typing all your messages, and the added bonus of the hidden trackpad features is a pure bonus, making this a worthwhile purchase for any PlayStation gamer who wishes to get away laborious typing a standard controller brings.
